Enforcing an end to fly tipping

Rubbish dumped in back lanes and on pavements is one of the most common problems residents raise with us, and it is often not households that are responsible. Where a business repeatedly leaves waste for other people to deal with, the council has enforcement powers, and we have been pressing for them to be used.
After complaints from residents and casework by your Green councillors, the council is issuing a fixed penalty notice of £300 to a business responsible for repeated dumping in the ward. We have not named the business here. The aim is not to single anyone out, but to establish that persistent fly tipping gets followed up rather than quietly tolerated.
